...in Carinthia's most beautiful region

Hiking around Lake Millstatt

Hiking in the Carinthian Nockberge mountains – from Lake Millstatt to the region's most beautiful mountain peaks...

From the lake, you will look in vain for any nearby mountain giants. Instead, you will see a panorama of rounded hilltops. The Carinthian Nockberge are a ‘high-hill region’ that reaches above the 2000-metre mark, where the dangers are noticeably lower than in the high mountains. Everything is covered by meadows, fields and forests, crowned by an alpine region.

There is a hiking tour to suit every guest for an impressive hiking holiday in Carinthia. Whether it is to the Alexanderhütte (1,786 m), Lammersdorfer Hütte (1,644 m) or Millstätter Hütte (1,876 m), the choice of hiking routes in this region is diverse.

The ideal starting point for your hiking holiday in the Carinthian Nockberge mountains

The right landscape to warm up in. You don't need to be in training for this. Start your hiking holiday with easy walks and then extend the distances to a longer hiking tour.

Children can play in the mountain huts, watch animals and collect stones. Adults can enjoy the landscape and the variety of flowers and plants.

And if you still have time, you can add other peaks, such as the Spittal local mountain Goldeck or the mountains of the Maltatal or Mölltal valleys, which are quickly accessible by car. There you will also find three-thousand-metre peaks with glaciers, which are ideal for experienced hikers.

For those who want to explore nature undisturbed, there is another hiking destination: the Nockberge National Park, so far the only fully realised national park in Austria, much less spectacular than the Hohe Tauern, but equally typical and worthy of protection. Special guided hiking tours are also offered here.
